Our Current Preservation Project

Crow traditions tell of their people residing in the Montana-Wyoming area for generations. The Crow people call themselves Apsáalooke or "Children of the Large Beaked Bird" and historically recognize three tribal divisions, the Mountain Crow, the River Crow and the Kicked in the Bellies. These independent bands led nomadic lifestyles, occupying their own respective territories, following yearly patterns of hunting buffalo and gathering plants, interspersed with intertribal warfare and special occasions where they gathered together for ceremonies and social events.
