THE CROW TRIBE’S INFLUENCE IN STILLWATER COUNTY BUS TOUR
July 20 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Museum of the Beartooths in Columbus is pleased to invite the public to participate in an all-day tour on Saturday, July 20, focusing on the influence of the Crow Tribe in Stillwater County. The tour starts with an overview of the history of the Crow Tribe’s Influence in Stillwater County at the Museum of the Beartooths with Museum Director Penny Redli and Casey Olsen of Columbus High School. Once on the bus, the group will stop at important Crow sites along the way.
The first major stop will take participants to the site of the Second Crow Agency near Absarokee. We will discuss the extensive archaeological work done at the site and the important artifacts and insights found that have helped re-create what life was like there between 1875 and 1884.
After lunch provided by the Fishtail Store, the group will visit the Stillwater Buffalo Jump on the Keogh Ranch near Nye. Also known as Ammishéelahpee in the Crow language, this hunting site, active since 300 A.D., was used to kill buffalo by several Native American tribes.
The tour cost is $50, which includes lunch. Tour participants will meet at the Museum at 9:00 a.m. for the opening overview. The bus departs at 9:30 a.m. and will return around 4:00 p.m. Educators will pay a discounted cost and will earn professional renewal units.
To register for the tour, call the museum at (406) 322-4588. Limited space is available.
